High-voltage glamour

A confident and eclectic mix in the living room includes contemporary Aboriginal art, a zebra hide, mirrored tables and sculptural lamps. Timber framed reproduction French sofa and armchairs are unpolstered in Nobilis velvet.

Lisa and Rick Revelins wanted a little more grown-up chic in their Victorian home in Melbourne. A trip to the US brought their answer. Dining with friends at the Viceroy, the stylish boutique hotel in Santa Monica, California, fitted out by interior designer Kelly Wearstler. That was exactly the style they liked! Armed with a copy of Wearstler’s iconic book, Modern Glamour: the Art of Unexpected Style, the couple headed home. First stop was at the Melbourne showroom of interior designer, Jean-Pierre Heurteau. For them he was the one who could help them. Jean-Pierre Heurteau is over the top glamour: ‘It’s all about the ‘wow’ factor.’ Lisa says. Indeed it is.

In the main bedroom a pair of old marble lamps was given new embroidered silk shades and the same fabric is used for scatter cushions on the bed. Next to the lamp, a favourite necklace in Lisa’s signature colours. Behind the bed, The Cole & Sons ‘Palm leaves’ wallpaper. A sparkling coloured 1950’s Murano glass chandelier.

Animal prints and modern art add a more graphic element to the study. The armchair is upholstered in Ralph Lauren ‘Zebra’ velvet. The ‘sixties standard lamp was found in a second hand shop. A still life grouping in the sideboard includes ceramic parrots from Jean-Pierre Heurteau Design and a lamp made from ostrich eggs, silver and graphite. The painting is by Australian aboriginal artist Ningura Napurrula.
