Thomas Paul’s design philosophy is not for the faint of heart. As he declares, “I just like to take everything and make it bigger and flatter. I hate shading and texture. I want everything to be super flat, to look mechanically produced, even if it’s hand-crafted.” He has applied this view to create a wildly successful line of home accessories, including printed silk cushions and melamine tableware. His approach to decorating his small one-bedroom apartment (barely 600 square feet/50m2) in Manhattan’s mid-town neighbourhood is characteristically bold and original.
